John Powers, REALTOR® and Team Leader
I’m John Powers, the owner and team leader of Powers & Rawls at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices RW Towne Realty. I’m also a proud father of four and a believer that Virginia Beach is the best city in the world! Before real estate, I worked in tech sales, but I knew I wanted something more and felt called to build something deeper and rooted in trust, long-term relationships, and meaningful service. When Brenda Rawls, my wife Kaylee’s grandmother and long-time top Virginia Beach realtor asked us to go into business with her, we decided to take that leap into real estate together as a couple. It’s been one of the most rewarding decisions we’ve ever made!

Today, I lead Powers & Rawls with a strong focus on strategy, integrity, and results. I believe exceptional real estate representation goes far beyond placing a home on the MLS. A strong marketing plan is essential. While many listings rely on photos alone, video allows us to tell a home’s story and reach the most people possible in the shortest amount of time. My goal is always to ensure my clients feel confident, informed, and fully supported throughout the entire process.

My Favorite Hidden Gem in Virginia Beach

My favorite hidden gem in Virginia Beach is The Sandbar at the Lesner Bridge. Accessible only by boat, it’s one of those rare places that can feel completely different depending on the day. On a busy summer weekend, it turns into a lively scene with dozens of boats gathered together. On other days, it can be incredibly peaceful and serene, floating in the water, surrounded by nature, soaking in everything that makes Virginia Beach living so special.

Kaylee Powers, REALTOR® and Co-Owner
Before stepping into real estate, I earned my master’s degree in social work and spent many years in that field. That experience deeply shaped how I work with people today and laid the foundation for how I serve my clients: with care, clarity, and a relationship forward approach!

My path into real estate was a meaningful one. An opportunity opened to work alongside my grandmother, and together with my husband, John, we built a business rooted in trust, strong communication, and long-term relationships. Today, I’m a co-owner of Powers & Rawls at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices RW Towne Realty, wife to John, and mom to four amazing kids.

Communication is the cornerstone of my process. Whether you’re buying or selling, clear and consistent communication creates better outcomes and a smoother experience. For buyers, what you’re looking for often evolves as you tour homes, and that’s completely normal. Sharing those shifts allows me to better refine the search and find the right fit. The same is true for sellers: as priorities and expectations take shape, open communication ensures your home is positioned thoughtfully and marketed effectively.

My goal is always to listen well, communicate clearly, and guide my clients with care and confidence. Real estate is about more than transactions, it’s about relationships, trust, and helping families take their next step with clarity and peace of mind. Virginia Beach is home, and I’m honored to serve the community I love!

Commune, right here in the Vibe District near our office! You HAVE to try the lavender latte, hot or iced!

Maddie Long, Marketing Director
Before working for Powers & Rawls, I ran a small creative marketing agency focused on content marketing and web design, working with global brands like Lands End and local ones like Hauser’s Jewelers. Marketing is such a powerful tool in real estate, and I’m proud to work for a team who values the power of marketing and invests in great marketing for their clients. When you’re hiring a realtor, you’re not just hiring a realtor…you’re also hiring a marketing agency to sell your home!

It’s hard to pick just one…so I won’t. Town Center is incredible (and massively underrated)! As a Town Center resident, I LOVE having the ability to walk absolutely everywhere – church, the grocery store, coffee shop, sauna, and the best shopping in Virginia Beach! Chesapeake Beach is a quiet bay access full of families and not many tourists – my grandparents used to live in the neighborhood and it’s the beach spot I frequent most (sunsets there are a must see). I’m also a huge fan of shopping at the farmer’s market and the local businesses in the Vibe District. If you want a fun adventure, the Eastern Shore is a short drive away!

Sam Bowers, REALTOR® and Sales Partner
Before joining Powers & Rawls, my career took a unique and service-driven path. I grew up in Africa and later moved to Washington, D.C. for high school. My professional background spans international and domestic work focused on helping people in meaningful ways. I’ve worked in refugee camps near Turkey, participated in political campaigns, and spent time in medical device sales supporting both patients and providers. Across many different roles, one theme has remained constant: serving people with care, responsibility, and integrity.

In real estate, I bring that same people-first mindset to every client relationship. I’m proud to be part of the Powers & Rawls team, helping clients navigate important life transitions with confidence.

My pick would be Wearings Gym! You walk in, and the walls are stacked with all these awesome photos from years and years ago. There are worn, iron plates and dumbbells, and the place has so much cool history. Not to mention, it's only a few blocks from the beach! This awesome spot has a lot of good energy and a lot of hard work behind it!
